Breast lift for drooping breasts what is it?

Implants will not lift you adequately

You would only have a very ‘ugly’ looking results with larger and still droopy breasts.

Accept the scars and get the lift and you are likely to be much happier with the outcome.

And even if the scarring isn’t ideal, realize that you have a much better chest that you can wear tank tops and tube tops with as opposed to where you are right now. (Curtis Wong, MD, Redding Plastic Surgeon)

Anatomic implants lift breasts easier

In your case implants will not result in a good result. Your nipples are way below the fold if i judge your photo’s correctly.

Of course filling up is possible, but that would only fill up the empty skin above the fold, thus your areola and nipple will look downwards, which is not very nice.

If they are at the fold level anatomic implants can push the nipples up, like a pendulum that is pushed sideways. Their point of maximum projection is below the midline, and the more projection they have the more they lift. Breast lift enhances the form a lot, but yes they come with scars, but in the long run they fade with most patients. (Ivar van Heijningen, MD, Belgium Plastic Surgeon)

Breast implant lift is your best option

Breast implant lift or not

You have such a severe ptosis and loss of breast volume that no implant can help it alone. You should consider breast lift and augmentation with implant in order to achieve good and long lasting result. It is a simple exchange, scar for shape. In the same time your large areolas may be reduced. In general, patient that is happy with size and shape of breast will accept scars without problem. How much do implants “lift” a breast?

Breast implant lift picture

It is true that the “fill” from an implant lifts the breast to some degree. How much that happens depends on many factors including:

  • Degree of skin excess and nipple droop
  • Skin elasticity
  • Weight and distribution of breast tissue
  • Volume and projection of implant chosen
  • Shape of implant chosen
  • Whether they are placed above or below the muscle

Do breast implants lift

Based on the photos, the first three are limitations. Your plastic surgeon has good ideas and I would not expect a good result with implants alone. (York Jay Yates, MD, Salt Lake City Plastic Surgeon)

The reason behind this is that you have an excess of skin relative to breast volume. In addition your nipple/areola are large and pointing inward. You would be best served with a mastopexy (breast lift) with or without an augment.

Does breast implant lift

You may have enough breast tissue to feel happy with just the lift. In essence, you are trading shape for some scars that will dramatically fade with time.

Breast lift with augmentation

I did a review of 500 breast augmentation patients and looked at nipple positions and only saw a 1cm gain in nipple position on average.

A consultation would be helpful to provide you an accurate recommendation. (Arian Mowlavi, MD, Laguna Beach Plastic Surgeon)

Breast implant lift is Necessary

A lift is necessary. Most of my lifts (mastopexies) can be performed using a vertical technique with a resultant lolli-pop scar. Since the reshaping is performed on the breast tissue , the skin is passively redraped with excellent scarring.

Redundant skin inferiorly will contract over the ensuing 4-6 weeks yielding excellent long term results. Don’t fear the scares, get the right procedure done.  (Brian J. Reagan, MD, San Diego Plastic Surgeon)

Can implants lift my breasts without getting a breast lift?

In general, a breast lift changes the shape and form of your breast. It repositions the nipple areolar complex and often reduces the size of an enlarged areola. A breast Augmentation primarily serves to enlarge the breast shape that you have. In you case, you would benefit from a breast lift to reshape your breasts and reposition your nipple-areola complex, a simultaneously placed implant can complete the picture with a well proportioned and well projected result.

It is important that you understand all the relevant issues to your surgery. I think you are an excellent candidate for an augmentation and lift. An augmentation without a lift would not lead to a pleasing result. (Afshin Parhiscar, MD, Bay Area Plastic Surgeon)

With the degree of extra skin and sagging that you are showing, a lift would be the best approach

I completely understand your reluctance to have the scars from a lift on your breasts.

Boobs after breast implant lift

The problem is that in a situation like this, where there is extreme laxity of the tissues, putting in implants alone will do nothing to change the position of the nipples or breast tissues. In fact, the most likely thing to happen is that the implants would wind up occupying the lowest area of the breast envelope, and you would have larger, heavier, saggy breasts.

This is called the “rock in the sock” by a lot of my patients, because that is the appearance that it takes on. In order to get the breast tissues and nipples back up to a more youthful and attractive position, and one that is in unison with an implant, a lift is required. This is the unfortunate reality, and many ladies like you have to make the difficult decision of what to “trade off,” having the scars from the lift but having attractively shaped breasts, or avoiding surgery altogether and keeping their breasts as they are.

Unfortunately there is no good middle ground which can deliver acceptable results.

There are different types of lifts, and the best one for each lady depends upon a lot of factors.

The best thing you can do is schedule a consultation with an experienced board certified plastic surgeon who can carefully evaluate your breasts and your goals and present all available options to you. Good luck. (Joseph L. Grzeskiewicz, MD, San Diego Plastic Surgeon)
