How to choose size, shape, type and profile of breast implants?

What profile is right?

For a very natual look I would recomend a smaller volume implant in a moderate profile. You can try on some sizers during your consultation to get an idea of the volume you like.

Larger volumes generally mean high profile implants to keep them covered by your native breast tissue. You should be able to get a good result. (Mahlon Kerr, MD, FACS, Austin Plastic Surgeon)

It all depends on the size of implant!

The way to a natural look for breast augmentation is mostly dependent on the size of implant for your body type and the surgeon’s surgical judgment.

High Profile Implants or Moderate+

I prefer the high profile implant with how your body frame looks in the photo because I believe it will give you more projection with a smaller implant size. You can also consider natural fill (fat grafting) breast augmentation if your goal is to have moderately enlarged breasts.

It is important to go over all of the surgical and implant options. It is also very important to have you and your surgeon agree on what the outcome should be – not too big and not too small. Your surgeon should be able to explain how he will be able to do this since he will be making the final decision in the operating room. (Tae Ho Kim, MD, New York Plastic Surgeon)

Selecting the right implant

What Size Breast Implants to Choose

Choosing the right implant is the hardest part of the process after selecting the right doctor. Make sure you find a doctor who understands what you are trying to achieve and that will listen to your goals. A board certified plastic surgeon with experience in breast augmentation is where I recommend you start the process. In general, the higher the profile, the less natural the final results however there are multiple factors that go into this decision. Using your breast and chest dimensions the doctor can usually give you a much better answer than just looking at the photos.

Also there are several other considerations including the form stable silicone implants as well as the position of the implant. Just looking at the photo I think a more natural result would be for either a shaped( form stable) silicone implant or using a moderate plus/style 15 implant, however this needs to be balanced with your desire for projection. Good luck and enjoy the process and whatever you decide make sure you spend the time considering the options. (W. John Bull, MD, Chicago Plastic Surgeon)

High Profile Breast Implants

Given that your tissues are tight if you use a high profile device it will push more outword giving you a more rounded upper breast so I think the moderate is for you (Ryan Neinstein, MD, FRCSC, New York Plastic Surgeon)

A moderate plus silicone gel implant would be a good choice. Talk with your surgeon and try them on, feel them so you can get a real understanding of that the difference is between high profile and moderate plus. Your surgeon will need to take measurements as well to be able to recommend the best implant for your body. Make sure you visit with a board certified plastic surgeon and look at photos. (Angela Champion, MD, Newport Beach Plastic Surgeon)

Choosing the Right Shapes and Sizes of Silicone Breast Implants

Moderate Plus is always the more natural appearing implant. I suggest a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon. (William J. Welsh, MD, Tampa Plastic Surgeon)

You need to be examined in person to determine the best implant for your body and goals. See a BC PS in your area. (Asif Pirani, MD, FRCS(C), Toronto Plastic Surgeon)

From my read of your comments, you would probably be happier with moderate plus implants. That will be more limiting in terms of maximum size of implants since there is less volume for any given implant width, and the implant width should be limited to the width of your natural breasts.

I do note some asymmetry in breast and nipple position, and that may be more noticeable with larger breasts. Discuss this carefully with your consultant. (Jourdan Gottlieb, MD, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)
