Can I do breast augmentation after lift surgery?

Having a Lift already and wanting your breasts to be firmer, you would be a good candidate for a breast augmentation with saline or silicone.

You should see a Certified Plastic Surgeon to review your options (Stuart B. Kincaid, MD, FACS, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)

Despite a breast lift, sometimes upper fullness is still lacking, especially after weight loss where the breast envelope can be deflated. A implant is an excellent compliment to round out the breast and provide upper fill. (Peter E. Johnson, MD, Chicago Plastic Surgeon)

Generally speaking, if the breast lift has been successful and the nipple and areola are in a good position, then it is safe to proceed with a breast augmentation procedure.

The Breast implants after

The breast implants add fullness in the upper breast and may help “smooth out” some loose skin that may occur after weight loss. In fact, in some patients who need a breast lift and augmentation, it may be advisable to perform the breast lift first to reposition the nipple and reshape the breast, and then proceed with a breast augmentation during another operation at a later time. (Matthew H. Steele, MD, Fort Worth Plastic Surgeon)

Breast augmentation can be done after lift. However, you want to be seen by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon to see whether you will just need breast implant. Some times, patients who have lost weight may need revision mastopexy (lift) as well as breast augmentation. (Sugene Kim, MD, FACS, Houston Plastic Surgeon)

This is something that can be done, but an evaluation by a board certified plastic surgeon would be essential to providing you with the appropriate plan to achieve your goals.

Implants after lift?

An actual consult will give you the best advice, and internet consult with photos would be second best. Third best is what you get here without having photos or measurements as a guide. What you are suggesting makes perfectly good sense. A modest sized breast implant should be able to help you achieve your goal, and placing implants after a lift is commonly done.

If your weight loss was significant and if the left was done in the distant past, a consulting surgeon can help decide if some modification of the lift is also recommended. This could be if the nipples and areolae are low, or if there is excess skin that would not be sufficiently filled out by the implants. (Jourdan Gottlieb, MD, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)

I feel you would do great with implants to get projection after a breast lift. We sometimes do them at the same time but it can be done in stages. (Sanjay Lalla, MD, FACS, West Orange Plastic Surgeon)

Breast lift with or without implants

Breast implants after is possible

It is very common to have a breast implant placed during or after a breast lift procedure. The implant will add upper pole fullness and can develop a nice cleavage. If the implant is placed at the time of the lift, the size of the implant is limited. If the implant is placed later on, as in this situation, you can pick whatever size implant you want and are able to place the implant under the muscle.

When a lift and an implant are performed at the same time, there is limited space to place the implant. The lift is making the breast firmer and somewhat smaller and the implant is making the breast bigger. Well, you can’t make something smaller and bigger at the same time! So, we compromise, the lift is not quite as tight and the implant not quite as big.

But, if the lift surgery is performed first, than any size implant can be placed. I would wait a minimum of 6 weeks between surgeries. (David Finkle, MD, Omaha Plastic Surgeon)

Augmentation after lift

It is actually much safer to do a breast augmentation after a lift than to do them at the same time. On general terms, an augmentation would give your breasts a rounder look with more fullness in the upper poles. They would also make your breasts feel firmer. However, these things cannot be achieved without at the same time making them larger! (J. Brian Boyd, MD, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon)
