Breast lift and augmentation before and after photos

There are few situations where a certain style breast implant combined with other techniques such as dual planing can help rotate the nipple up enough to provide augmentation of the breast and save the extra scarring from a lift.

However, in your situation, you look like you will need a breast lift. The reason being is that a good portion of your breast tissue is laying on your abdomen, not your chest.

The breast implant, whether it be a shaped implant like the gummy bear implant that you alluded to or a round implant, will sit in a defined pocket (either subpectoral or sublgandular) on your chest – without a breast lift, your breast tissue will still be hanging near your abdomen and you will have a “snoopy” deformity where your breast hangs down and below your implant.

The new shaped implants are wonderful when used correctly and the algorithm for when to use a shaped implant versus a round one is pretty complex, but long story short is that the round implants give a “fuller” upper pole, for those patients seeking more cleavage.

I prefer to use the shaped implants for breast augmentation in patients that want a tapered/”gentler” upper pole giving them more fullness in the lower pole and thus a little bit more of a “natural” look. In patients who desire breast augmentation and also need a breast lift, a very natural look can be obtained with use of either a round or shaped implant and your plastic surgeon can better decide what implant options are best for you after a thorough consultation. A better assessment of your concern can be obtained through a physical examination with a board certified plastic surgeon.

They will take measurements of your pre-surgery body to help you choose the most suitable treatment, as well implants to achieve the improvement you’d like. A breast lift may be necessary to achieve the fuller breasts you’d like in the photo you’ve attached. (Jerome Edelstein, MD, Toronto Plastic Surgeon)

A breast lift can be performed for one of several reasons:

  1. The nipple sits low on the breast
  2. The breast skin and tissue is loose (especially in the lower part of the breast where it is guaranteed to increase in weight from the implant)
  3. The diameter of the areola is excessive (usually accompanied by loose skin; see #2) Based on your photographs, it looks like you do need a breast lift. Of course, nothing replaces a thorough examination by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to determine the best plan of action. During your consultation, if a breast lift is recommended, you should ask which pattern of incisions and scars your P.S. expects to use, as well as the usual risks and benefits of the planned procedures. A shaped implant will not give you the best improvement, especially in the upper part of the breast. (Brian K. Brzowski, MD, Ogden Plastic Surgeon)

The decisions for lifts depend on your exam, desired size and ultimate implant choice. There are a variety of tools including your measurements, wearing sizers inserted into your bra and 3D imaging. There are multiple lifts that can be done to help improve nipple position. (Robert Whitfield, MD, FACS, Austin Plastic Surgeon)

I doubt you can achieve your desired results with implants alone. Your desired photos can be achieved by undergoing a lift with implants. I suggest round implants to achieve the upper pole fullness. A lift alone cannot produce upper pole fullness. (Ary Krau, MD, FACS, Miami Plastic Surgeon)

An issue with the photos is that your arms are elevated, and this simulates a lift to some extent. The same photos with arms at your sides would likely demonstrate more sagging than is apparent on these. When the lowest part of the areola is lower than the breast fold, a lift should be considered when implants are planned. The “risk” of not doing one is the appearance of your breast tissue hanging off the implant. The decision should be based on an actual exam, and not photos.

If the situation is borderline, it may be better to do the augmentation alone, and see how they settle. A lift can always be done as a secondary procedure after 3 months or so. (Jourdan Gottlieb, MD, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)

Do I need a lift with my Breast Augmentation?

I think you are a great candidate for a breast lift. You may have enough volume after the lift to not need an implant. If after the lift you feel you still need volume – i would consider silicone gel high profile implants. If you believe that even with a lift you will need more volume – you can do both simultaneously. (Thomas Trevisani, Sr., MD, Orlando Plastic Surgeon)

In my opinion you will need a lift. The post op picture is nice but your figure is not the same so you can not have that same result. I encourage you to look at a before and after pictures that look like you so you can get a better idea of what to expect. (Gregory Lynam, MD, Richmond Plastic Surgeon)

From the pictures you provided and your desired photo appearance I would definitely recommend a breast lift at the time you undergo augmentation. There are various options for a lift and these can be discussed at the time of your consultation. I also noted some asymmetry with your l breast slightly smaller and higher than the right, this may also need to be addressed possibly with different sized implants depending on the degree of asymmetry noted during a detailed evaluation. As all of the prior Plastic Surgeons noted you will definitely require an in-person consultation and discussion to make sure what you desire and what your Plastic Surgeon is working to achieve are one in the same. As always, a consultation and exam would be required to give you a definitive answer as to which procedure would be best for you.

That said, I believe from your photos that an augmentation alone would not render the results you desire. You would most likely benefit from a breast lift with implants. (Christopher J. Morea, MD, Raleigh-Durham Plastic Surgeon)

In my opinion, you really should have a lift with implants. Give the look you are seeking, only a lift with implants would give you something similar. (Shim Ching, MD, Honolulu Plastic Surgeon)
