Edmund Kwan Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery – New York

Doctors

Edmund Kwan, MD

Name: Edmund Kwan, MD
Statement: Dr. Edmund Kwan is a board-certified plastic surgeon with private practices in Manhattan, New York; Flushing, Queens; and Fort Lee, New Jersey, serving the greater New York City and Tri-State area.

With advanced training in plastic and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Kwan performs a wide range of procedures for the face, breast, and body, including body contouring, breast enhancement, and dermal fillers and injectables.

Though he treats patients of all backgrounds and ethnicities, Dr. Kwan is best known for his specialization in Asian plastic surgery. He is renowned for his exceptional work maintaining the integrity of his Asian patients’ features, while providing them with the aesthetic look they desire.

Dr. Kwan was born in Seoul, South Korea, and immigrated to the United States with his family at 9 years old. He earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and underwent full training in general surgery before completing a residency in plastic surgery at Cornell-New York Presbyterian Hospital and a fellowship at Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital Center, both in New York City.

To further hone his skills and expertise, Dr. Kwan pursued training in hand surgery at New York’s prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery; craniofacial trauma training, through which he reconstructed complex fractures of facial bones, at the Baltimore Shock Trauma Center at Johns Hopkins; and a unique fellowship in aesthetic plastic surgery in Honolulu. For this training, Dr. Kwan relocated to Hawaii to study under Dr. Robert S. Flowers, a trailblazer in the field of Asian plastic surgery who has specialized in this category since the 1960s.

Board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Kwan is passionate about supporting the members of his community through his expertise in Asian plastic surgery, which is rare among plastic surgeons. He has spent the entirety of his 26-year career mastering surgical techniques that don’t Westernize an Asian face, but rather enhance the smallest details, to bring out his patients’ natural beauty. Every patient is different, which is why he takes a customized approach to treatment.

When not seeing patients, Dr. Kwan stays busy in his role as clinical assistant professor of plastic surgery at New York Medical College and Cornell University Medical College. He also acts as an attending surgeon at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

In his free time, Dr. Kwan stays active in the medical community through his membership in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, as well as by traveling to attend plastic surgery conferences and seminars, where he is often a guest speaker.

He also enjoys using his surgical skills to help support underserved communities, and volunteers his time annually to travel with medical missions teams to countries in South America and Africa.

Additionally, Dr. Kwan is the author of Let It Flow, a book about the connection between efficient blood circulation and an improved quality of life.
