Statement: Dr. Christine Fisher is a board-certified plastic surgeon, fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and clinical assistant professor of surgery and perioperative care at the University of Texas Dell Medical School in Austin, Texas. She specializes in cosmetic surgery of the breast and body, as well as implant-based and living tissue breast reconstruction for breast cancer patients at Austin Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. In her eight years of practice, she has performed more than 1,500 DIEP flap reconstructions and more than 2,000 microvascular breast reconstructions with a greater than 99% success rate.

Experienced, knowledgeable, and compassionate, Dr. Fisher believes that cosmetic and reconstructive surgery should provide both physical and emotional wellness.

“I’m not here to tell the patient what ‘needs’ to be ‘fixed,’” says Dr. Fisher. “I’m here to listen to the patient, and to translate that into a safe plan that will optimize the aesthetic outcome. Whether I’m reconstructing a breast due to breast cancer, or performing a mommy makeover for a selfless mom who’s given birth, breastfed, and raised children, I look at it the same way: I am the patient’s quality-of-life surgeon. I am so glad I’ve chosen this path in life. I can’t imagine not doing it, and I’m grateful for the whole experience. I always tell my patients, ‘Thank you for letting me be your doctor.’ I love those moments where we get to high-five over what a beautiful and natural-looking result they have.”

Dr. Fisher received her medical school degree with honors from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She then completed an integrated plastic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. There, she won the Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award twice and the Department of Plastic Surgery teaching award three times.

During this same period, she studied the applications of adipose-derived stem cells and fat grafting in soft tissue restoration as a research fellow at the Armed Forces Institute of Regenerative Medicine (AFIRM) and trained in microsurgical perforator flap (DIEP flap) breast reconstruction at Magee-Womens Hospital.

Elected by her peers to be included on Texas Monthly’s Texas Super Doctors: Rising Stars list, Dr. Fisher regularly earns recognition for her outstanding contributions to cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Fisher is proud to serve on the Medical Advisory Committee for the Breast Cancer Resource Center and to be a sponsor of Art Bra, a charity that raises money for women affected by breast cancer.

Would an autoimmune disorder such as ITP cause a higher risk of developing BII?
AutoImmune Disorders and Surgery
Sep 27, 2022
In general, if your autoimmune condition is mild and especially if it is under control, as this sounds, you are safe to proceed with surgery. Often an additional clearance letter is requested from the physician caring for you discussing this fact. We have had many, many clients proceed with breast augmentation procedures without issue despite underlying conditions. I would discuss your desires and concerns with the surgeon when consulting and come up with a care plan that you both feel...
Moving a breast expander. Will it be possible to move it further down or is it fixed in plac
Repairable at next surgery
Sep 23, 2022
Thank you for your question. It is not necessary nor helpful to band an expander. These are devices that are typically sewn into position on the chest wall to provide appropriate expansion of the skin during your healing phase or any further oncologic treatment needs and thus will not move despite banding attempts.

When the exchange procedure takes place, your surgeon will remove the expander and the sutured tabs allowing for freedom of implant placement within your breast pocket. As...

I am 5 days post op after a tummy tuck and worried about the line in the middle?
Results will settle and look more natural in time
Sep 30, 2019
Hello! Thanks for your question and the photo. At five days post-op, you still have plenty of recovery time ahead of you — which means you also have plenty of time for your results to change, settle and become more natural-looking. Rest assured that it is still much too soon to be concerned about what you see. In all likelihood, the area around your navel will become smoother as your swelling goes down and as your skin adjusts to its new positioning. You can always contact your plastic s...
I have dark redness on the lower half of both breast after breast reduction. Is that normal?
Discoloration can be a normal side effect, but best to see your surgeon in person
Sep 30, 2019
Hello, and thank you for your question! Discoloration can be a normal side effect of breast reduction, and every patient’s experience with how long discoloration last is different based on their body and their surgical process. Without photos, an in-person evaluation and more information about your surgery, it is impossible to say whether your redness is part of your recovery process or if it is the result of a complication.I highly recommend scheduling a follow-up appointment with your p...
Am I a good candidate for a mini tummy tuck or a full tummy tuck? Do my breasts need a lift and/or
Good candidate for a variety of cosmetic procedures, but see a board-certified plastic surgeon
Sep 30, 2019
Hello! Thanks for your questions and the photos. Unfortunately, I’m afraid I cannot offer the personalized advice you need without a face-to-face evaluation. You seem to be in good general health with young, elastic skin, which makes you a good candidate for a variety of cosmetic procedures including the ones you mention. You should schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. In person, your surgeon will be able to give you a better idea of how you can achieve your a...
What should I do? Get another round of lipo or a tummy tuck?
tummy tuck or liposuction
Sep 13, 2019
Hello, and thank you for your post and the photos! In your case, it is very difficult to make a recommendation without an in-person evaluation and more details about your surgical and health history. Just from the pictures, you do seem to have good skin elasticity on your stomach, which leads me to believe that you may not need a tummy tuck at this time. Liposuction may be able to remove some of the stubborn fat, though it will depend on several factors including your BMI, how much fat you...
If I get liposuction on my thighs will it make my butt look bigger?
liposuction
Sep 13, 2019
Hello and thank you for your question! Liposuction is a highly targeted procedure that only removes fat in the specifically treated area, so having it done on your thighs should not affect the size of your buttocks. Additionally, many patients do find that shaping the area around the buttocks with liposuction does make the butt appear larger by accentuating it. It is possible to have liposuction performed on the calves, but it is not very common and is not an option for everyone. You will...
What’s the difference between a liposuction vs. a lipoesculture? And who’s a good candidate for ea
liposuction
Sep 13, 2019
Hello! Thank you for your question. Liposuction and liposculpture are the same procedure. Using the term “liposculpture” is just a way of highlighting that liposuction is used to “sculpt” the body by removing excess fat in unwanted areas. The ideal candidate for these procedures has noticeable pockets of fat that are slow to respond to diet and exercise — for example, love handles, a belly pooch or upper arms. If you are interested in liposuction, you will need to schedule an in-pers...
Should I get Implants even though I'd prefer to avoid them if possible?
mommy makeover
Sep 13, 2019
Hello! Thanks for your question and the photos. Since you have a good amount of natural breast tissue and are not hoping for a significant increase in size, you likely do not need implants to be happy with your breast lift results. Many women do lose a small amount of breast volume during a lift due to the excision of loose and sagging tissues, but the improved perkiness often gives the illusion of a larger breast regardless of the change in breast volume. Additionally, you can always have...
Single mom and mommy makeover recovery. How long will I need to stay in bed realistically?
mommy makeover
Sep 13, 2019
Hello! Thanks for your question. While you will not necessarily need to “stay in bed” for very long, your activity levels will be limited for a few weeks. I would recommend arranging for help with childcare for one to two weeks, after which you will be able to do most daily activities like running errands and preparing meals on your own. However, you will need to avoid lifting your children until your surgeon clears you to do so (this could be six to eight weeks). You will also need to be ...
Follow Up Question: do I have enough for results similar to these?
mommy makeover
Sep 13, 2019
Hello! Thank you for your question and the photos. While it is difficult to say without an in-person evaluation, I unfortunately do not think you would be satisfied with the results from a butt lift, given that you have limited fat to work with. However, since you are certainly a good candidate for a tummy tuck and breast lift, I think you will be surprised by the difference that these two procedures can make in your figure — even without the additional butt lift. You can also still...
What surgical plan would you recommend for unilateral LCIS diagnosis?
LCIS reconstruction
Sep 13, 2019
Hello! Thank you so much for your question and photos. Without an in-person evaluation, a discussion with your oncologist and a conversation about what you hope to achieve, it is difficult to offer a recommendation. If a mastectomy is recommended for the removal of the cancer, a unilateral mastectomy (nipple sparing if you are a candidate) with a 2 stage implant reconstruction using tissue expanders may offer you a good result. Just please be aware that a one-sided mastectomy and...
How many cc bigger can implants be following the removal of the expanders?
breast reconstruction
Sep 13, 2019
Hello, and thank you for your question and the photo. I am sorry to hear you are dealing with this frustration after going through so much. Typically, the implants inserted after expanders are removed, needing to be approximately the same size as the expanders themselves. The reasoning for this is that the expanders have created a safely sized pocket within your breast in which the implant will be placed. If the permanent implant is larger than the pocket, you will likely have results that...

breast reconstruction
Sep 13, 2019
Hello and thank you for your post! I am sorry you are having difficulty with your surgeons understanding your needs. From what you say, it seems as though you are seeking a breast reconstruction, but you want your new breasts to be smaller than your natural breasts before cancer. Without more knowledge of your body type and your mastectomy, it is very difficult to gauge what size implants would be most appropriate. However, 800ccs is on the large end of implant sizing and I would not...

breast reconstruction
Sep 13, 2019
Hello! Thank you so much for your question. Without a photo or an in-person evaluation, there is no reliable way to predict what size you will be after your surgery. This is because ccs and cup size do not correspond the same way on every woman’s body. Breast implant sizing is measured in exact volume (a 350cc implant will always be 350ccs), while bra cup sizing is relative to band size. Women with different body types will therefore achieve different results and bra sizes from the same i...
