Best Type of Breast Implant
When it comes to implants there are many choices. There is no right or wrong answer only preference. After an exam and consultation, you and your surgeon can discuss the best options for you. For example a moderate round saline implant may look ideal for one patient, while a high profile silicone implant may look better on another – it all depends on your anatomy and personal preference. (Tarick K. Smaili, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)
The Smaller type of implant
The implant that is best for you depends on your anatomy combined with your goals.
The implant should be equal to or less than the width of your natural breast with a volume sufficient to achieve your goals. What most women really want to know is whether saline or silicone is “better.” In my office, I present both options for patients to feel and to get a sense of the weight.
By far the most obvious difference is in the feel. The viscosity of silicone is so much higher that silicone implants have a very natural feel.
In addition saline implants are a little heavier than the equivalent silicone implants. When in the breast, the silicone implants tend to have less problems with rippling.
All of these factors lead most of my patients to choose silicone implants over saline. How do you know which implant is the best for you? Easy. Schedule a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon! (David Bogue, MD, Boca Raton Plastic Surgeon)
What type of implant is best – it depends.
All things equal, silicone gel implants are aesthetically better than saline. However, in patients who have a sizeable amount of breast tissue to begin with, the difference can be minimal.
Types of profile are chosen based on the dimensions of the chest and the expectations of the patient. (Vincent N. Zubowicz, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
Best implant to achieve the best result
When choosing the best implants to use in your personal situation, it is best for you to consult with your board certified plastic surgeon to determine size and shape. I would suggest finding pictures of looks you would like to achieve. Depending on your internal anatomy, I usually place moderate to moderate plus profile implants submuscularly to achieve a more natural look.
High profile implants are used to achieve more projection. Sizers are used in the operating room to determine size and volume. What is the best breast implant?
The good news is that there are a lot of choices. The bad news is that all the choices can be confusing. Your doctor should thoroughly discuss with you the pros and cons of the different types of implants. Not only do you have to choose between silicone and saline but there are different dimensions as well. In the end you get a highly customized result.
Make sure your doctor has sizers in the office for you to try on in a bra. This is done after your doctor determines what range of implant sizes are appropriate for the dimensions of your body. I have drawers full of sizers and I find this exercise very helpful for both me and the patient. (Tracy Pfeifer, MD, Manhattan Plastic Surgeon)
The best breast implants are determined by your goals, your body and your surgeon’s expertise. As a result, the best implant really relies on each patient. (Jerome Edelstein, MD, Toronto Plastic Surgeon)
Every patient has different requirements. Surgeons have preferences based on their experience. You need to meld these two things with your surgeon to answer this question. (Gary Lawton, MD, FACS, San Antonio Plastic Surgeon)
There is no ‘smaller’ implant. What is best for each patient differs based on their goals, anatomy, and personal preferences.
Be sure to see a board certified plastic surgeon in your area to discuss what is ‘best’ for you. (Asif Pirani, MD, FRCS(C), Toronto Plastic Surgeon)
Although there are many factors in making a nice breast augmentation, the type of implant is important. Over the last year I have been using a brand new implant which is more cohesive or “gummy bear” like.
It seems to hold its shape better and still feels very much like a natural breast. They are made by Sientra. If you imagine the implant being sliced in half with a bread knife, it would sit there like a gummy bear and not ooze out.
This is important in mimimizing issues if the implant were to ever rupture. Primarily, I like them because I believe they give a better shape to the breasts. (Kouros Azar, MD, Thousand Oaks Plastic Surgeon)
Selecting your Breast Implants
There are many types of breast implants. The main category is saline or silicone gel. Within these categories, there are different shapes and profiles, and obviously a variety of sizes. Selecting of the best breast implants can be complex, and in my opinion is the most important part of the surgery.
I perform many revisions per month of breast augmentations performed by other surgeons, and the vast majority are errors in implant selection. Find a board certified plastic surgeon who is experienced with every type of implant so that he/she can help you choose the one that is best for your body and desire. (Matthew Schulman, MD, New York Plastic Surgeon)
I prefer textured “gummy bear” implants, but all implants have pluses and minuses. Best to see your plastic surgeon to discuss which implant is right for you. (Grant Stevens, MD, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon)
What Type of Implant is Best for a Breast Augmentation
It’s important to understand that there is no one implant that is best for everyone. Some women may do best with one kind of implant while others may get a better result with a totally different type of implant. Choosing the implant that is right for you depends on your anatomy, breast shape, body habitus and life style. The only way all of these factors can be evaluated in order to select the best breast implants that is right for you is by having a consultation with a plastic surgeon.
Your surgeon will need to examine you and discuss your goals in order to come up with the various options which will suit your body. In my practice we customize the implant choice for each individual patient.
There are many choices for implants. They can be saline or cohesive silicone gel. Cohesive implants can be round or teardrop shaped and the surface can be smooth or textured.
The choice of implant depends on your existing shape and the type of breast you are trying to achieve. So there may be a best implant for you but it may not be the best implant for the next person. Your plastic surgeon will help you make the best decision for you. (Frank Lista, MD, Toronto Plastic Surgeon)
