Selecting your surgeon is the most important decision that you will make in regard to your surgery. Once you did your due diligence and found a surgeon that you trust, things become easier and much less stressful.
That process takes time, because you might have to see quite a few plastic surgeons ( unless you hit the lottery, sort of speak ).
The following steps are important in selecting your surgeon :
1. Consult with board certified plastic surgeons who operate in accredited surgery cente.
2. Meet the surgeon and staff. Observe their bed side manners and how thoroughly they answer your questions and do the answers make sense to you.
4. Check the follow up process. There should be frequent visit initialy in order to calm your fears and reduce possible complication.
5. Ask to talk to previous patients to get their input.
6. Talk to friends or family member and try to get referrals recommendation.
7. Check ‘realself’ reviews for positive patients experience.
8. Finally and most importantly, check the before and afterb pictures to make sure that they are numerous, consistent and attractive. The 2nd most important decision is the timing of surgery. Surgery requires recovery time and you have to coordinate it with work and home responsiblities. Cutting corner with recovery time is not a good idea because it increases possible complication significantly.
So, do it right. As you can see, this process can take significant amount of time and reserving the time for surgery, 5 month ahead is actually a very good thing. (Shlomo Widder, MD, McLean Plastic Surgeon)
Scheduling Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is a relatively short procedure and therefore can usually be booked around larger cases within a week. Some patients are eager and excited after the consultation to book as soon as possible. Other patients have their consultation with the intent to have the procedure a few months ahead. Sometimes this is just for convenience of their vacation schedule or perhaps the patient is just exploring the possibility of surgery and plans to consider things for a while. Most importantly, you should feel comfortable with your surgeon. Don’t rush into things if you don’t feel comfortable with the consultation.
It is sometimes good to get the opinion of more than one doctor. When choosing a plastic surgeon for any procedure, always be sure that they are board-certified in plastic surgery. (Ira H. Rex lll, MD, Fall River Plastic Surgeon)
Each patient has her own unique issues with life’s schedule and work or school schedule. Some patients are comfortable proceeding sooner if ready. Seeing a board certified plastic surgeon early will give you enough time to decide on the right plan without being rushed and allow you to pick out the date that works best for you! (David C. Yao, MD, FACS, Phoenix Plastic Surgeon)
How far away is breast augmentation surgery usually scheduled after consultation?
This really depends on whether you need any preoperative workup, ie mammogram, blood work, or preop clearance based on age.
Assuming none of this is needed Ive had patients preop the day I see them for surgery the next day. This likely depends on the doctors schedule and how many days of the week he operates. I operate 4 days a week so scheduling patients tends to be relatively easy. (Christian Prada, MD, FACS, Saint Louis Plastic Surgeon)
Scheduling breast augmentation surgery
Elective breast augmentation surgery may be scheduled for in advance of the procedure. This will allow ample time for recovery. I generally have two consultations prior to the surgery with most patients schedule the procedure in the upcoming 2 months. (Kevin Tehrani, MD, FACS, New York Plastic Surgeon)
Obviously the sooner you go in for a consultation prior to surgery is better because it allows you and the surgeon to better plan their schedule. (Frederic H. Corbin, MD, Brea Plastic Surgeon)
Many patients schedule surgery in advance to meet the needs of their busy schedules. I recommend scheduling a consultation at least 4 to 6 weeks prior to your desired date. the (Jeremy A. Benedetti, MD, Tampa Plastic Surgeon)
