Photodynamic treatment useful against seborrhea?
Photodynamic therapy for seborrhea
Mar 9, 2010
Mar 9, 2010
I did a quick literature search and could not find any articles supporting the use of PDT (photodynamic therapy) in the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis. The hard part is that seborrhea is not something that is likely to be "cured", it is something you will need to learn to manage. PDT just isn't practical for contiued use. There are great topical therapies for seborrhea that are much more realistic for long-term management.
Laser hair removal vs. waxing
Laser hair removal
Mar 9, 2010
Mar 9, 2010
Laser hair removal by far is the more long lasting treatment! If you go through a series of treatments, you can expect the hair removal to be permanent. Waxing will only temporarily remove the hairs until they regrow at their normal rate. While waxing "pulls the hairs out" from the root, lasers destroy hairs at the place they are grown - the root (or bulb as it is called). In my opinion, laser hair removal is also less uncomfortable than waxing!
Any way to speed healing after a TCA peel?
TCA peels and healing
Mar 9, 2010
Mar 9, 2010
Unfortunately, once a TCA peel has been done there is little way to speed up the peeling process. You absolutely DO NOT want to pick at your face, as you can potentially cause scarring. I always educate my peel patients that they will need at least about 7 days of down time for the peeling to take place. Then, the erythema can persist.
While you might be able to have a second therapy to decrease the redness, I would probably recommend just moisturizing and allowing natural healing to...

Blepharitis and Latisse?
Latisse for eyelashes
Mar 9, 2010
Mar 9, 2010
The good news is that blepharitis is usually easily treated. I would treat it and then proceed with the Latisse. I agree that false lashes are probably not a good idea. The adhesive that is needed to keep them in place can cause allergic contact dermatitis and they will tug on the already irritated skin of the upper eyelid.
Fortunately, Latisse will allow your lashes to lengthen and thicken in a relatively short amount of time (usually about 12 weeks of use!). So lush lashes aren't out...
Botox after retinal detachment?
Botox for periorbital wrinkles
Mar 9, 2010
Mar 9, 2010
As other physicians have said, Botox when injected properly will ONLY work on the muscles it is injected into. It will have NO effect on what is happening in the eye itself, thus no effect on your retina. Try Botox and enjoy!! The results are addicting!!!
Delayed dry skin from Accutane treatment?
Accutane and dryness
Mar 9, 2010
Mar 9, 2010
If you are taking the medication, it is working. Sometimes, due to environmental humidity or topical moisturizers, you may not always get such intense dryness. That is a good thing! You don't need to see excessively dry skin in order for you to have a superb outcome at the end of the therapy course.
I often dose my patient's lower, especially in the dry winter months, and then just continue the course for a month or two longer. The outcomes are the same, and...

Starting Accutane after breast augmentation
Accutane and plastic surgery
Feb 5, 2010
Feb 5, 2010
There is very little recent literature to provide support for or against Accutane following plastic surgery. The long held belief was that you should not undergo any cosmetic surgery for 6 months following accutane therapy. This assumption was based upon a few reports of thick hypertrophic scarring following accutane therapy. Since we have no good information to show that this is NOT a risk, I would recommend waiting at least the 6 weeks recommended by your doctor and maybe as long as 6...
