RealSelf Q&A with Dr. Edelstein
RS: What inspired you to become a surgeon?
JE: I found that surgery was more involved than other medical specialties—the technical aspect of it and how you get to use your hands. I considered other surgical specialties, but I was blown away by the variety of plastic surgery—not just cosmetic, but reconstructive surgery as well, which I often still do.
RS: What’s a consultation with you like?
JE: A consultation at my Toronto office is about getting to know patients and learning their goals and desires. Patients are never rushed during a consultation—I want them to be comfortable and well-informed, and I always take the time to answer questions and understand their expectations. The bottom line is that I love what I do, I care about my patients, and I want them to know that I’ll do my very best for them.
RS: What sets your practice apart?
JE: In addition to focusing on just a few procedures to reach an elite level of expertise, we try to be sure every patient has what we call a Four Seasons experience. Like the hotel’s dedication to the highest standards, we want to provide the ultimate patient experience from beginning to end, in terms of service and quality of the surgery.
RS: How would you describe your approach to plastic surgery?
JE: Transformative aesthetic surgery is definitely a merger of art and science, but, overall, I’d describe my process as being meticulous. With breast augmentation, for example, I take a lot of measurements in order to figure out what breast implants fit the person properly.
I really pay attention to details and don’t leave anything to chance. For instance, while little puckers of skin where the incision ends (“dog ears”) are common after tummy tucks and often go away after a while, I correct them there and then. Some surgeons are more laid-back, but I sweat the small stuff.
Staff
“Design is about inflicting emotion, no matter what it is. I love being a part of that process here at Edelstein Cosmetic. It’s extremely rewarding being able to see a transformation of self-confidence.”
