Snoopy deformity
As you know, a snoopy deformity occurs when the the breast tissue is “hanging off” the implant. In other words, the breast tissue is not centered over the implant.
If a patient has significant sagging, and has augmentation alone without a lift, you are at risk of this occurring. In my practice if the patient has enough tissue to cover the implant and needs a lift, I prefer to place the implant on top of the muscle. You will find a difference of opinion among plastic surgeons about this. Whether the implant is under or over the muscle, you can still develop a snoopy deformity.
If you need a lift and you refuse one, and the implant is placed under the muscle, it will not look great. From your photos, it looks to me, that with or without an implant, you will have a better result with a lift. (Tracy Pfeifer, MD, Manhattan)
To avoid the snoopy breast deformity, you will need a breast lift at the time of augmentation. An implant, whether subglandular, submuscular, subfascial, dual plane, etc. will not correct the breast to the extent that you will want. Find a plastic surgeon with ELITE credentials who performs hundreds of breast augmentations and breast lifts each year. (Kenneth B. Hughes, MD, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon)
How to avoid ‘snoopy’ breasts
Your breasts are mildly ptotic (droopy) so it is hard to tell what is best for you from photos alone. (Snoopy breasts can come from breast implants lying above a droopy breast) Breast implants give about 2 cm of breast lift. Breast Implants alone or implants + breast lift may be needed.
A 400 cc gel implant over the muscle will make breasts droop more in time. See a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon for a full examination and measurements to see what will work best for you. (Elizabeth Morgan, MD, PhD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
